Last Monday, the Hubs and I were both “off” together. It is so nice to enjoy a day together. We spent our time taking care of some chores around the house, but also did a lot of cooking. I made a fresh batch of yogurt and a loaf of sandwich bread while he made chicken liver mousse. I also finally had the opportunity to make bread with the wild yeast starter I’ve been cultivating for over two weeks now. Inspired by the book Tartine Bread we wanted to enjoy a loaf of real artisan style bread made at home. It turned out great and I can’t take any creative credit for this loaf, except that I used mostly freshly milled flour for this recipe (3:1 whole wheat and white).
We invited the brother and wife over for dinner. I made potato leek soup to add to the fresh bread, chicken liver mousse and selection of cheeses. We had a great time tucking into a simple meal on a cold night. The dogs ran around playing while we chatted, sipped red wine and dreamed about the future.
