I like to sew, I feel crafty sometimes and start projects that I sometimes finish. I usually make quilts. I like quilting because you take all kinds of fabrics that are awesome and mix them all together to make a fantastic design. The sewing usually involves straight lines and it’s pretty easy to wing.
I don’t sew clothing. Not usually. But for some reason* or another I decided that I wanted to make a dress. (*The reason: I wanted a dress with pockets for work, I need pockets like I need comfortable shoes, and most ready-to-wear dresses don’t have pockets) So when I was at G Street fabrics in Washington DC a few weeks ago I picked up a pattern and some cool fabric and decided it was time I try my hand at clothes again.**
(** my last attempt at clothing was when I was a teenager or pre-teen, it did not go well. Said clothing was not fitted or flattering.)
My mom was visiting this weekend and she helped me figure out some of the tricky spots like the collar and how to alter the pattern to include a lining (this fabric is too sheer to not have a lining). It’s almost finished, I just need to complete the armholes and the hem and then it will be ready to wear! I can’t wait!!
I’m looking for purple patent leather shoes to wear with this dress, but I’d settle for any other wild color found in this fabric as patent leather shoes too. (I am not afraid of color….. it’s all about how you wear it.)
