For real: Sometimes I believe that people leave their manners and better judgement at home before going out to dinner.
Imagine this – a pretty full restaurant – it is Friday after all. A couple of tables with older guests settling in. A party of 10 , bubbly, 30 something ladies join the room to celebrate their friend’s birthday. Tonight was kind of like watching a car accident – you could see it coming, but could do nothing to stop it, and there was carnage everywhere.
The older guests for the most part could be appeased by moving to a different table, in another room. You listen to a bunch of “well, I never!” and “don’t you think they’d be a little quieter?!” and then you and they move on with it. But no. There always has to be that one guy who won’t let it go and is irrational beyond all reasoning. He had the gall to ask to have the other party moved. In the end, he behaved worse than the ladies who were just being a little loud. And you know what? I hope he never comes back like he promised. He’d be doing us all a favor. And you know what else, I hope those ladies had so much fun that they come back with their husbands, their families and their other friends and tell their co-workers they had a good time.
When was the last time you watched a 60+ year old man turn into a 3 year old throwing a tantrum in the middle of a restaurant because he wasn’t getting his own way?? It must be tough to feel so privileged and have no one else appreciate that you are the most important person in the city.
Really – I didn’t need the stress that his frustration caused, it wrecked me for the night. But whatever… I’ve got the next three days off. I’m sure there will be a nasty letter in the next week, and probably a scathing comment on the internet about it too. But I’d like to think that most people will read it and realize that this guy is a total lunatic. What do you think?
