I cannot begin to tell you how much I have been looking forward to this coming weekend – and it was planned before we were pregnant! We are going to Tennessee this weekend. We will be staying at a bed and breakfast with views of the smokey mountains and on Sunday we are going to Blackberry Farm for an Outstanding in the Field dinner. If you know what I am talking about – you’d be thinking – “Awesome!”. If you don’t know – let me break it down for you!
Blackberry Farm is one of the most magical places on earth – in my opinion. It is a fully functioning farm with artisanal food makers – cheese, meat, gardners etc. It is also a Relais & Chateau heavy – as in super luxurious overnight accommodations with insane daytime activities for guests who have the deep pockets to afford it. (We are not the type who would ever dream of being able t afford an overnight there much less a whole vacation) The hubs and I have looked into jobs there a couple of times – but never taken the step to apply – TN seems so far away from “home”. We have always wanted to go there.
Outstanding in the Field is a group of people who put on dinners all around the country, and now in Europe, during the spring/summer/autumn months with the help of local chefs and farmers. They set up a long table out in a field and serve an amazing dinner, the event usually includes a tour of the farm and lots of time to chat with the winemakers, farmers, chefs. We’ve been to one before and it was awesome. We didn’t get to go last year because we were in Alaska. I could not believe our luck when I saw that they were partnering with Blackberry Farms this year for one dinner – we jumped at the tickets the moment they went on sale – which was a good thing because they sold out fast this year!
Of course when we originally planned this trip, I wasn’t pregnant, now at 30 weeks, I’m very pregnant. So now we’re calling this our babymoon, the last chance we have to “vacation” before we have a kid – sounds good to me!
Here are some pictures from the last OITF dinner we attended – you can expect a full post from me next week on the trip!
