While I’ve been busy trying to get everything ready for the little one to arrive, I haven’t been paying much attention to the decked out container garden. I haven’t needed to. We’ve been very fortunate to have a balance of rain and sun, which in turn has kept the potted plants happy and producing. The tomato plants, though slowing down, are still full of green babies that are growing and slowly gaining their rosy hue. The green beans put out a handful every few days and the chard/kale/pepper plants are all chugging along like they have all summer. A few weeks ago I planted some more sugar snap peas and salad mixes – just to try to get a little more mileage out of the weather before it gets really cold.
I thought I had it made. That was before the apartment management company called to inform us that we needed to removed everything off the deck so that they could power-wash on Friday, and then on Monday they are going to seal the decks. Crap.
Right now I’m trying to figure out just how much of garden can be moved for those several days and saved and how much I am going to have to rip out because it won’t survive the jostle. I’m trying to come to terms with losing my green beans and my two heirloom tomato plants (garden peach and purple cherokee) just because they are too awkward to move inside much less all the way down to the yard. (while they are in the yard, everything will be at the mercy of the rabbits, deer and other land critters that like salad)
Total Bummer. The management people really don’t understand what they are doing to me. I cried a little, it’s very frustrating to have so very little control and privacy. I’m very curious as to how they plan to get a power-washer up to my 2nd floor deck – they’re crazy if they think they’re going to drag a heavy, messy, loud machine like that through my apartment.
Anyways – like I mentioned, I’ve been busy getting things ready for the little guy. I should have something put together to post about that soon. The hubs and I have some work to do here tomorrow – if we get it done, I will feel much closer to being done and ready.
