Let me cut to the chase, because I don’t have long before my baby wakes and needs my attention. This motherhood thing is tough. Rewarding and awesome but difficult at the same time. The hardest part has been giving up everything that I’ve known before to surrender myself completely to the care and tending of this precious little boy. Now at six weeks since his birth I am finding myself become more accustomed to this new norm.
Baby G is getting big and fast. As of Monday he was 12 and half pounds (at 5.5 weeks). Crazy! My friend M isn’t far off when she promised me I’d be “jacked” in another month. I do feel myself becoming stronger, all the while being tired at the same time.
He isn’t quite sleeping through the night yet, but getting closer, some nights he’ll sleep for 5 hours, like last night. Other nights, like all the previous nights this week, he has trouble going to sleep and then doesn’t want to stay asleep for very long. On top of that he seems to be eating all the time and like to take a long drink in the middle of the night.
I’m able to get out of the house just about everyday. We’re getting better at our timing and feedings (especially in public) which makes getting out easier and more enjoyable for both of us.
My method of survival right now is to get up half an hour before Hubs and baby do. They stay in bed while I try to get myself organized for the day. I clean the kitchen, get breakfast ready, try to check my emails, shower or any other thing that I am trying to accomplish hands free. I have found that I am most happy throughout the day when I’ve already planned my meals and done a little prep ahead of time. I’m not always successful at setting myself up so well, but I can definitely feel the difference when I do.
It’s been really fun to watch him the past few weeks as he is becoming more alert and awake. He is starting to coo and make noises other than crying – Fun! We are nearing the adorable baby stage where he’ll start to discover his hands and feet and will interact with us more.
This weekend we are travelling to my Grandmother’s home. (his one and only Great-Grandmother) I’m really excited to take him to her and show him off. This will be the baby’s first plane ride – I’m planning on it going well – at least as well as the train. We should be fine. His Grandma, my mom, will be with us, so we really should be fine.
The Hubs and I have decided we need to get a new computer as this one is dying. I haven’t uploaded any pictures recently because of that fact – so here’s one from a few weeks ago. I’ll try to post more recent pics next week when we’re back.
