December was pure insanity for the Cookin family and thusly, posting here did not happen. I do want to share an idea with you though – that can be used throughout the year – just change the wrapping materials to suit the season.
Because the Hubs was working crazy holiday hours at the restaurant, only off on Christmas Day, the boy and I stayed in town to celebrate with him before heading off to my family’s home to celebrate the next day. We were welcomed into other people’s homes on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so we wouldn’t be alone (or have to cook for just the three of us). I didn’t want to show up empty handed so I came up with a cute hostess gift that was under $5.
Here’s my thinking. When you throw a party, or host guests, there is always a lot of clean up afterwards, so I wanted to give my hosts something they could actually use – right away. I purchased a 3-pack of holiday dish towels, a few bottles of really lovely dish soap and a pack of pop-up sponges (from Trader Joe’s $6 for a dozen), I had ribbon on hand. I tied three sponges with a little ribbon, nestled the little package up against the soap and rolled it up in the dish towel, securing with more ribbon. Under $5 each, in less than 5 minutes! What’s not to love!?!
PS – this would make an awesome house-warming gift too! Go welcome those new neighbors!
