Chaos ensues in the Cookin household!! We are hanging out in Limbo, somewhere between packed for a move and waiting for renovation work to be done before we move in. The in-between-ness of this short (but lingering) stage of our becoming homeowners is making me cray-zee! To keep myself occupied in the meantime I’m working on refinishing not one but three, maybe four, pieces of furniture, big furniture! I’m painting and distressing the dresser/hutch for the nursery. Painting two corner china cabinets that conveyed in the home sale. And I really need to stain the unfinished dresser I bought for the Hubs over three Christmases ago! May I just admit, ahem, that the idea of painting a piece of furniture seems much easier than the actual doing of such a task? Especially, when you throw a one year old toddler into the situation – ‘hello, insanity’! I’ve gotten two coats of paint and one layer of wax on the kids’ dresser and the main bodies of the two china cabinets have been painted twice. I still have yet to finish putting a second coat on the doors of the cabinets, but that won’t take long to finish. What seems to be taking forever is the waxing. It’s not until I’m at least a third into a project that I start kicking myself over insisting on doing things the hard way. I love the Annie Sloane paints that I’m using, but it’s a lot of work!
Enough about furniture. Work on the house continues. Wisely, we chose to hire a contractor to complete a few projects before we move in. Being pregnant right now made the decision to let someone else paint the entire house very easy. We had some work done to reconfigure closets on the upper floor – which is completed. The team is finishing up painting the trim and the ceilings and priming the walls. Color is going up in the nursery and guest rooms today! I’m really looking forward to seeing all of the other colors in the rest of the house. Next week someone should start refinishing floors after removing the old, ugly carpeting – I can’t wait!! Fingers crossed and prayers said so that we’ll be able to move out of our apartment and into the house before the end of the month.
Also – the most exciting tidbit I’m sharing today….we had our mid-pregnancy ultrasound this morning and I am pleased to announce that we are having a girl!! We’re so very pleased and excited by this news! This is a different season for us to have a baby (late spring vs winter). So I’m glad that we’ll be buying new clothes with two good reasons! (size/season and gender)
